INT. HOTEL DENOUEMENT, LOBBY – NIGHTPEOPLE TO NUMEROUS TO LIST stand IN THE HOTEL OLAF Tell us the three phrases we need to type into the lock in order to open the Vernacularly Fastened Door.
DEWEY You won't find anything in the laundry room, except for some piles of dirty sheets, and Very Flammable Detergent OLAF My past disguises my have put you under the allusion that I am stupid, but I have more sense than that trained monkey you call a baby
SUNNY makes A NOISE [Subtitles : I'm not a monkey and you're definitely a baboon.
OLAF If there's nothing in the laundry room, why did you put a V.F.D. lock on the door?"
DEWY It's just a decoy CU: we see VIOLET holding DEWEY's hand. DEWEY's hand is trembling. CU: VIOLET looks up with a concerned look on her face OLAF Decoy? What's a decoy?
DEWEY A Decoy is a word with several meanings. It can refer to a corner of a pond where ducks can be captured, or to an imitation of a duck or other animal used to attract a real specimen. Or, it can mean something used to distract people, such as a lock on a door that does not contain a certain sugar bowl."
OLAF If the lock is a decoy, sub-sub, then you won't mind telling me how to open it." OLAF brandishes the HARPOON GUN in a SINISTER FASHION DEWEY The first phrase is a description of a medical condition that all three Baudelaire children share VIOLET, KLAUS, and SUNNY all smile at each other DEWEY The second phrase is the weapon that left you an orphan, Olaf OLAF smirks
DEWEY And the third is the famous unfathomable question in the best-known novel by Richard Wright. EVERYONE looks CONFUSED at this OBSCURE REFERENCE OLAF I don't have time to examine the Baudelaires medical history or shove my face into any best-known novels! If I don't hear the exact phrases used to open the lock by the time Esmé counts to ten, I'll fire the harpoon gun and tear you to shreds! Esmé, count to ten!
ESME I'm not counting to ten ESME gives OLAF the EVILS ESME I'm not going to do anything for you ever again!
JEROME I knew it! I knew you could be a noble person again, Esmé! JEROME gets OVEREXCITED JEROME You don't have to parade around in an indecent bikini in the middle of the night threatening sub-sublibrarians! You can stand with us, in the name of justice.
ESME& Let's not go overboard. Just because I'm dumping my boyfriend doesn't mean I'm going to be a goody-goody like you. Justice is out. Injustice is in. That's why it's called Injustice.
JUSTICE STRAUSS "You should do what's right in this world, not just what's fashionable. I understand your situation, Esmé. When I was your age, I spent years as a horse thief.
CUT TO EXT – FIELD, THE PASTThere is a HORSE HORSING AROUND. JUSTICE STRAUSS (V.O) At the time, I thought that stealing horses would be the only way to make an honest living YOUNG JUSTICE STRAUSS jumps over a FENCE like a KICK ear NINJA JUSTICE STRAUSS (V.O) I stole so many horses that - CUT TO INT – HOTEL DENOUMENT, NIGHTCOUNT OLAF I don't want to hear your boring stories. he only thing I want to hear are three exact phrases from Dewey's mouth, or his destiny will be death by harpoon, as soon as I say the number ten. One !" JUSTICE STRAUSS jumps in between the TWO GROUPS OF PEOPLE
JUSTICE STRAUSS Stop, In the name of the love! THAT SONG by THE SUPREMES begins to PLAY indicating the start of a MUSICAL NUMBER. The CHARACTERS perform INTERESTING MOVEMENTS to COMICAL LYRICS which I am too LAZY to describe. TRIP takes over as AUTHOR increasing the QUALITY of the story.

OLAF brandishes the HARPOON GUN in a SINISTER FASHION. DEWEY The first phrase is a description of a medical condition that all three Baudelaire children share.
VIOLET, KLAUS, and SUNNY all smile at each other. DEWEY The second phrase is the weapon that left you an orphan, Olaf. OLAF smirks.

In the name of the law!COUNT OLAFTwo!JEROMEStop! In the name of injustice!COUNT OLAFThree!VIOLETStop! The three BAUDELAIRE ORPHANS go stand in front of DEWEY to make a MEAT SHIELD. EVERYONE goes QUIET. KLAUS You can't harpoon this man. You'll have to harpoon us first. CU: SUNNY's adorably determined BABY FACE. SUNNY Or - put down gun. CU: OLAF just sneers. OLAF I wouldn't mind harpooning you either, orphans. When it comes to slaughtering people, I'm very flexible. Four! VIOLET Lay down your weapon, Olaf. You don't want to do this terrible thing. VIOLET starts to walk slowly towards the HARPOON GUN. OLAF Of course I do. If the sub-sub doesn't tell me how to get the sugar bowl, I'll pull the trigger no matter who's standing in front of me! Five! KLAUS You have a choice. You can choose not to pull that trigger! OLAF And you can choose death by harpoon! Ha! Six! SUNNY Please. OLAF Seven! SUNNY Please. OLAF Eight! Nine! The BAUDELAIRES keep walking forward until the hooked tip of the HARPOON GUN is pressing into VIOLET's chest. They put their HANDS on the HARPOON. VIOLET looks down at it. KLAUS looks at OLAF's hand on the trigger. SUNNY looks into OLAF's eyes. CU: Olaf looks back, almost pitifully. There is COMPLETE SILENCE. He whispers. OLAF What else can I do? VIOLET Give us the gun. It's not your destiny to do this treacherous deed. KLAUS Give us the gun. It's not your destiny to be a wicked person. SUNNY La Forza del Destino. The SILENCE is terrible. OLAF gets ready to shout "TEN." There is a coughing noise. MR. POE walks out in TACKY MONEY PAJAMAS. OLAF shoves the HARPOON GUN into the BAUDELAIRES' hands, but they fumble and drop it. CU: The HARPOON GUN falls to the floor in SLOW MOTION. The RED BUTTON is pushed in by the FLOOR. CU: End SLOW MOTION. The HARPOON goes flying out of the GUN into the air. CU: A wide shot of MR. POE. The camera ZOOMS IN with a whooshing noise, as if from a HARPOON's point of view, as MR. POE is startled and terrified. People who haven't READ the BOOKS and DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER cheer. Suddenly, the video stops. MR. POE's frightened face fills the screen. LEMONY walks out in front. LEMONY When the harpoon gun was fired, the Baudelaires realized that everything had changed in an instant, which is the wicked way of the world. In an instant, you can light a match and start a fire that can destroy the lives of countless people. In an instant, you can remove a cake from the oven and provide dessert for countless others, assuming that the cake is very large, and the others are not very hungry. In an instant, you can change a few words in a poem by Robert Frost and communicate with your associates through a code known as Verse Fluctuation Declaration, and in an instant, you can realize where something is hidden and decide whether you are going to retrieve it or let it stay hidden, where it might never be found and eventually be forgotten by all but a few very well-read and very distraught figures, who are themselves forgotten by all but a few very well-read and very distraught figures, who in turn are forgotten, and so on, and so on, and so on, and a few more so ons besides. All this can happen in an instant, as if a single instant is an enormous container, capable of holding countless secrets safely, securely, and attractively, such as the countless secrets held in the Hotel Denouement, or in the hidden underwater catalog in its rippling reflection. And, in this instant, they heard the red trigger click!, and in this instant the penultimate harpoon was fired with a swoosh! and sailed through the enormous, domed room and struck someone a fatal blow, a phrase which here means "killed one of the people in the room." A person who's destiny it was to be slain by a harpoon, and who's destiny would come tonight. That destiny, however, would not come tonight for Mr. Poe. The NETFLIX-ONLY AUDIENCE groans the LONGEST GROAN to ever be groaned.
CU: The Baudelaires spin to face MR. POE in distress. There is the horrible noise of an impalement wound. The Baudelaires turn to look.
CU: PAN UP DEWEY. He stands, holding the HARPOON, sticking out of his chest.
CU: CUT to everyone's face in turn, all looking horrified and astonished, as the clock begins to ring: "WRONG, WRONG, WRONG."
VIOLET & KLAUS Dewey! SUNNY Denoument! DEWEY gasps, trying to force out one last, VERY IMPORTANT word. DEWEY Kit. CU: Dewey takes a step back, and then stumbles backwards into the reflecting pond. CU: The Baudelaires take a futile step forward, reaching out their arms as if they could grab him and pull him back. CU: LEVEL SHOT UNDERWATER. DEWEY'S BODY sinks slowly past the camera. CU: DOWNWARD SHOT UNDERWATER. DEWEY'S BODY sinks away from the camera into the dark as LEMONY speaks. LEMONY (V.O.) As Dewey slipped out of the orphan's grasp, into the water, like so many others they had lost, the Baudelaire orphans wept alone for the mercies denied them, and for the wicked, wicked way of the world.
